Summary
South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust is welcoming all AHP’s to join an innovative and rapidly growing Acute and Urgent Care Service Line.
This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (Ward 1) and contribute to the implementation of new systems working within a supportive MDT Team.
The Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 10 bedded unit offering Trust-wide service for male service users. The Occupational Therapist is a key professional contributor to the Acute Care Forum, shaping and monitoring the quality of service provision against set standards. As a key member of the MDT the successful applicant will hold a designated caseload and be able to work independently providing OT specific assessments, addressing occupational performance, enabling the client in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure. The service provision is 24 hours seven days a week. The teams are Multidisciplinary and you will have a role in mentoring and supporting junior staff. There is a team approach to the management of the caseload.
We are a multi-disciplinary service that recognises the need for joint working across many services and by offering specialist bespoke perinatal interventions.
You will have excellent assessment, risk managing and communication skills and a commitment to working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and in partnership with service users and carers. You are expected to be confident in decision making and be autonomous in your practice; and responsive to carry out routine and urgent assessments using specialist mental health and occupational therapy assessment including MOHO tools.
The successful candidate should have the ability to:

• Be persistent in problem solving, seeking solutions through the expertise of both self and others, researching the facts with care and resolving problems in a timely and thorough manner.
• Remain self-controlled and be prepared to listen to what others say and feel, deal with conflict in an accommodating manner and use practicality as a method for reaching a solution.
• Provide optimum levels of leadership, if required, encouragement, training and support.
• Mentor, counsel, coach and generally support those who are not confident in their area of competence, building morale and personal esteem and generally encouraging others to give their best performance.
• Be firm and persistent when expressing views and provide thoughts and ideas to overcome problems once the situation has been properly debated.

Springfield University Hospital, Tooting
Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are coming soon. Close to shops, cafes and Tooting Bec on the Northern Line plus Earlsfield and Tooting rail stations and bus routes.
• To manage a caseload of clients with complex needs and challenging behaviour within psychiatric intensive care, using evidence based /client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
• To provide leadership for junior staff, through supervision and appraisal.
• To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust OT Service
• To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement
• To use a range of evidence based Occupational therapy assessments to determine individual patient’s need, contributing to bespoke and individualised care-plans.
• To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the service, holding responsibility for defined projects.
• To participate in and contribute to local service development and strategy.Se
• To contribute to the Trustwide occupational therapy strategy (Model of Human Occupation and Clinical Specialist forums).
• To undertake regular audit and R&D activities.
• To provide training and support across the Trust’s Occupational therapy workforce.
