Summary


We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Deputy Head of Nursing who will be committed to lead on the delivery of high quality patient care and service innovation, as well as developing nursing teams who are skilled and confident for the future in the Division of Surgery Anaesthetics and Cancer.

The Division is led by the Divisional Medical Director, Divisional Director of Operations and Divisional Director of Nursing using the triumvirate model of leadership. The post holder will also work alongside another Deputy Head of Nursing who will primarily lead on Theatres. The key services delivered by the Division are Emergency and Elective Surgery, Intensive Care, Ophthalmology and Oncology & Haematology.

Ideally the applicant will be an innovative and versatile leader who will support the Division through the many challenges and opportunities that are planned over the next few years including the Hospital Transformation Programme. The Surgical Division is currently developing a new state of the art Elective Surgical Hub at the Telford site. This purpose built unit will incorporate 4 new theatres, recovery areas and admission & discharge facilities. They have also secured the new Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System and are currently planning services to incorporate into theatre activity. They are also in the process of creating services within orthopaedics including a designated Trauma & Orthopaedic Assessment area and transformation of trauma services on the Shrewsbury site.

Due to a recent promotion within the nursing leadership team this exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented individual with multiple skills overseeing and leading our elective and non-elective inpatient wards and larger departments within the Division across both hospital sites. Managing a team of Senior Nurses you will have the ability to demonstrate a compassionate approach to the care of patients and the public whilst possessing the ability to ensure robust clinical operational demands are met is a key requirement of the role. You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisation skills providing and delivering professional and operational leadership for nursing within the Division.

The successful applicant will take a senior management role to deliver an innovative service across the Division. In the role, you will lead a committed team to deliver the service, support the Senior Nursing Team priorities and the wider Trust agenda. You will work collaboratively with the clinical leads while developing partnerships with the other divisions and our specialist nurses. You will have had demonstrable success in a senior role working as part of a multi-professional team, and bring strong leadership and management skills. You will be able to establish your credibility with colleagues and be a visible senior nurse to an ambitious and committed team.
