We are delighted to be able to offer this position as a permeant part-time contact at 0.7WTE, 26.25hours per week. Though for the first year, from June 2024 as a result of a maternity leave vacancy with in the inpatient stroke team, full time hours can be offered on a fixed term basis.

The successful candidate must have experience of working with adults with complex acquired disorders of communication and swallowing. Neurology or stroke experience is essential. Competencies in tracheostomy management and video fluoroscopy are preferred; however, in house training can be supported to facilitate these skills if required. Experience of leadership in clinical practice is also essential.

Substantively as a part-time position the role will involve: 1 day per week working on the stroke unit at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, and 2.5 days working within the stroke early supported discharge team based in Shrewsbury.

Fixed term for 1 year from June 2024 the successful candidate will work their full time hours 50% in the inpatient stroke team and 50% in the stroke ESD team.

We are looking for an individual who has an excellent understanding of evidenced based-practice within the speciality of stroke rehabilitation. The ability to influence and implement best-practice, to ensure we are continuously improving the quality of services provided to patients across the pathways.

As the clinical lead, this post holder will also focus on leadership skills, including supporting the delivery of Speech and Language therapy (SLT) professional objectives and wider stroke strategy, working closely with fellow Band 7 clinicians within the team and wider SLT teams.

You will be responsible for the clinical supervision and mentorship of band 5 and band 6 speech and language therapists within the stroke and ESD team. You will be required to deliver regular training within our therapy structure and you will also be required to lead in delivering dysphagia link nurse training on a rolling programme as well as providing education and support to the wider MDT.

We are fortunate to offer our patients a 7 day stroke therapy service, at present from a SLT perspective we offer a 6 day service. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in this work pattern and will also lead on rota development for the SLT team in conjunction with the team's line manager.

We are a friendly, welcoming and ambitious team. Our stroke therapy team consists of SLT's, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, assistant practitioners and shortly a dietitian. As such, this role offers a great opportunity to work with a broad range of professions to drive forward excellent integrated stroke care for the patient's we serve.
