We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Practitioner to join our Continence & Urology Team in North East Essex Community.

In this role, you will play a vital part in delivering high-quality healthcare to patients within their own homes as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The aim is to promote self-management and independence in daily activities, ensuring patients receive the support they need.

Under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner you will be expected to
• carry out continence assessments for housebound patients – including 24hr wet pad saves and interpretation and implementation of appropriate level 1 continence plan of care.
• give basic advice re fluid intake/bladder friendly drinks/PFE’s
• be able to explain and identify the basic types of incontinence including: stress, urge, functional, passive.
• have a basic understanding of symptoms which may indicate an enlarged prostate and be able to appropriately refer back to specialist nurse for further assessment.
• be able to advise patients re basic bladder drill
• be competent in bladder scanning and able to interpret results/refer to specialist nurse as needed
• be competent in Male/Female/Supra-pubic catheterisation and when needed run catheter clinics in the community
• be competent to TWOC patients and be aware of the circumstances that TWOC may not be appropriate without first consulting specialist nurse
• be competent in Bladder washouts/closed system washouts
• provide catheter care and advice
• have a full understanding of continence products available and be able to assess patients for the most appropriate products
• be competent in assessing for urinary sheaths
• be competent in urinalysis and basic interpretation
• be confident and competent to refer patients to Specialist nurse for further assessments
• be competent in stoma/urostomy/nephrostomy basic care
• have accessed continence/LUTS clinics
