Summary


The post will incorporate the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research.



The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be required:


• To liaise with all key members of the multidisciplinary team to advise and support colleagues in the delivery of specialised patient care across professional boundaries.


• To undertake nurse led clinics and to be responsible for excellent standards of nursing care to patients through the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating nurse-led clinics.


• To work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care appropriate to the needs of the patient group and based on principles that are research based and which enhance the quality of patient care.


• To contribute to training and education within specialist area.


• To promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through reviewing the evidence base and embedding this in practice through engagement in research activities.



An opportunity has become available in the Urology nursing team for a Band 6 Benign Urology CNS. The successful candidate will be working alongside the multidisciplinary Team seeing patients who have been referred via the Clinical Assessment Service (CAS). The role involves assessment and possible treatment planning for patients referred with benign urology conditions. They will be supported by the experienced members of the benign nursing / medical team.

We are seeking a motivated, proactive nurse with vision and maturity, and knowledge of urological conditions and their treatments. The successful applicant will be required to work in close collaboration with the urology out patient team, as well as other health care professionals within the acute and primary care setting.

To apply you will be expected to have experience and knowledge of urological conditions including assessment, and treatments for continence issues, and benign urology diseases. You should also be an excellent communicator and be able to demonstrate the ability to inspire and manage change. You should be willing to learn and be an active member of our team of urology nurses.

We are a supportive team of nurses dedicated to carrying out high standards of care and developing the skills and knowledge of all its team members.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract

1. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain a professional behaviour at all times and promote a positive image of Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust at all times, in line with World Class Care values.


• Ensure that the needs of patients are placed at the centre of care delivery, thus achieving trust and national standards for clinical quality, safety and patient experience.


• To participate in and manage caseload of patients within nurse led clinics.


• To provide an expert urological nursing service covering benign urological disease, continence, erectile dysfunction. Including urodynamics, LUTS assessments, Intravesical treatments and painful bladder treatments.


• To liaise effectively with other members of the multidisciplinary team, in patient services, other specialties, colleagues in primary care and outside agencies.
• Collaborate on all aspects of quality management related to the nursing and clinical area.


• Assist in the evaluation of the service and patient care, including monitoring of patient experience.


• Assist with the implementation of improvements in nursing practices within own areas of responsibility in line with local and national agenda and patient feedback.


• To have a thorough understanding of safeguarding procedures and knowledgeable with respect to safeguarding triggers and risks.


• To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own clinical and professional activities.


• To recognise the limits of own clinical knowledge and skills and to seek medical support whenever needed to provide safe, effective and timely patient care.


• Taking account of national policy, to ensure that core, specialist and advanced nursing practice is developed to meet service need, through the use of research and evidenced based practice, ensuring they are linked to the clinical governance and patient safety agendas.


• To promote new and innovative forms of nursing practice, backed up by relevant education and training plans, to deliver care that enhances access to the department and specialist services.

• Maintain awareness of relevant research, evaluations and audit, and act on this information in collaboration with colleagues to continually develop the service.


• Direct and support nursing staff in their commitment to advancing nursing / clinical practice through the use of research and the implementation of evidence-based practice.


• Contribute to the creation and design, with other multi-professional team members, care pathways for referral of the particular groups of patients with the aim of disseminating good practice and improving outcomes throughout the trust.


• Non- Medical Prescribers (NMP) to work within an agreed NMP trust / service guidelines.


• Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and Scope for Expanded Practices for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors.
