Summary

Job responsibilities:KEY TASKS: Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC/HCPC code of conduct and within limits of competence With appropriate training and supervision, undertake a full range of theatre duties in the anaesthetic /surgical / recovery role Ensure that patient safety, dignity, confidentiality and comfort are paramount. Ensure patients rights are respected and act as their advocate when needed. Ensure that skilled care is given to patients and that all drugs and treatments are administered as prescribedand documented in accordance with Trust policy. Prepare and assemble specialist equipment and instrumentation Ensure that effective communication takes place between patients, staff, relatives and carers as appropriate. Ensure that all practice is in accordance with established procedures and protocols, and conform to the unitsoperational policy. Support and encourage the concept of team working and developing good working relationships within thedepartment and within the Trust. Promote and support multi-disciplinary teamwork in the delivery of high standard of patient care in theperioperative setting Assess, monitor and evaluate the care needs of the peri-operative patient, gaining the comprehensiveunderstanding of the patient's condition and reporting effectively to the appropriate person. Report any areas of concern to your line manager and/or Clinical Team Manager Act as an accountable practitioner taking every opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence in all aspects of perioperative care. EDUCATIONAL Promote and maintain an environment conducive to learning and development for all staff. Support the educational and development needs of colleagues and trainees. Ensure the effective orientation of staff new to the Department. Identify own training, development and educational needs and agree with team leader. Be aware of the role of audit and research and update own practice with reference to research findings. QUALITY OF SERVICE Display a professional attitude at all times. Maintain a portfolio that reflects knowledge and skills acquired and demonstrates a commitment toprofessional development and satisfies the requirements of the NMC/HCPC as appropriate. Contribute to the philosophy of continual professional development by taking an active role in practicedevelopment and the review of clinical practices. Demonstrate a commitment to making best use of resources to ensure the maintenance and improvementof service delivery to patients and staff. Deputise for the Clinical Team Leader (B6) in his/her absence. Assist the Theatre Clinical Leader in providing leadership and facilitate appropriate skill mix for the OperatingTheatre Lists. Demonstrate leadership by personal example, fostering good interpersonal relationships andencouraging and developing high staff morale. Assist with Co-ordination of patient activity, staffing and utilisation within the clinical area in order to deliverhigh quality health care. Assist the Clinical Team Leader supervise the activity within the unit and share responsibility for settingstandards and supervising safe clinical practice while adhering to West Suffolk Hospital Operating TheatreGuidlines. Ensure that thorough data recording is undertaken, both paper and electronic, to support robust statisticalinformation gathering and recording. Act as a resource for the support and guidance of staff, patients and relatives. Contribute to the development and updating of training packages relating to specific areas and skills, inconjunction with the Clinical Team Leader and/or Professional Development lead
