Summary

Job OverviewBuilding strong working relationships across the Mitie and Sellafield teams to ensure that jobs are planned and completed in a safe manner. To act as the gatekeeper for tasks being completed by Mitie teams and contractors, to ensure everyone understands the job hazards, agreed risk controls and potential hold points prior to the job being issued.

To carry out the duties of a safe system of work controller in accordance with the current Sellafield Ltd IMS, safe systems of work requirements and all applicable SSOW guidance and protocols within facilities services areas of responsibility

Main Duties

-Delivery & implementation of safe systems of work in accordance with all applicable site procedures and associated practices.

-Attend stakeholder meetings and contribute to identifying an appropriate safe system of work as befits the task, taking into account all hazards associated with the task, the environment and any other safety concerns that could affect the doer, others and our buildings plant or equipment.

-Engage as required with any SME's (subject matter experts) or other bodies which may be impacted on their service delivery as a result of those undertakings.

-To assist our plant owners and building managers in all aspects of the delivery of SSOW and potential impacts on building and service lines.

-Implement safe systems of work providing verification where required for the purpose of formal isolations ensuring that they meet with the Sellafield processes and are robust, safe and secure.

-Carry out regular audits to ensure work is carried out in a manner that meets with the agreed safe system of work, risk assessment, method statements etc within the area of jurisdiction.

-To provide advice and guidance to all concerned parties when planning in work for prescribed area of authorisation i.e. Facilities Services property portfolio and associated assets.

-To produce, maintain and archive Safe Systems of Work documentation, in accordance with current document control procedures, with attention to detail, accurately recording data in a legible manner and be readily retrievable.

-To confirm the workplace is safe prior to authorising work to proceed in area of authorisation.

-To continually strive to the achievement of improved local and site-wide safety standards at all levels / awareness.

-Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a good working knowledge of all Sellafield site procedures and associated processes and documentation and where required attend further training as required by the role.

What we are looking forThe successful post holder will need to hold the following Sellafield SQEP roles, or be able to achieve this within 3 months:

-S0887D Control and Supervision of SSOW Version 3.

-S0112E IOSH Managing Safely.

-S05010 Risk Assessment.

-SO731F Control and supervision of isolations

-SO563F Control and supervision of safe systems of work

Additional requirements:

-A good general knowledge of nuclear site operational practices would be advantageous coupled with a sound understanding of health & safety good practices, and/or operational experience in a hard services discipline would be desirable.

-Preferably have a strong desire to learn new skills and improve their knowledge of safe systems of work procedures & processes, looking to develop a good working knowledge across all disciplines.

-Must be a dynamic, with excellent communication skills, focussed on service delivery & customer service.

-Able to develop and nurture long term lasting relationships with the client, direct staff, sub-contractors and other service suppliers.

-Integrity, with an unbiased approach to authorising work and dealing with our customers.

-A positive approach to ensure a strong and safe work ethic exists within the team to enable works to meet statutory compliance as a minimum, whilst striving to meet with industry best practice.

-Demonstrate a willingness to adapt to new methods, keep abreast of new Sellafield procedures and health & Safety Legislation.
