The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Programme would like to invite applicants to join their friendly team as a Speciality Secretary within Breast Screening Department at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

This is a part time permanent position for 20 hours per week.

You will need to be able to work flexibly as part of the team to produce clinical correspondence using digital transcription software. Previous experience of audio typing and a wide range of secretarial and administrative skills is paramount. The post holder will provide secretarial support to the multidisciplinary breast screening team. A knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.

You will be required to display tact and diplomacy, and have developed communication skills when dealing with senior staff, patients, colleagues and the general public.

The post holder will be expected to provide a robust and comprehensive secretarial and administration service to the Breast Screening Programme, Director of Breast Screening, Head of Department and Breast Screening Consultants.

The post holder will be responsible for supervision of the clerical staff within the relevant teams and will act as secretary to relevant medical staff and the Breast Screening Management team.

To work with the Breast Screening team to ensure no Trust targets are breached, ie 18 weeks and cancer targets.

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
