Applicants are invited to apply for a Junior Clinical Fellow ST2+ Equivalent with on call Rota to start as soon as possible (This is a banded post). All applicants must hold a current GMC registration and have NHS experience. We are a major Neuroscience Centre and are undergoing further significant development as a tertiary referral centre for the Northeast London and Essex including additional critical care capacity. Neurosurgery has a dedicated ward as well as access to our joint Neurosciences ward and Neuro ITU. This role will be a core team member working within a multi-disciplinary team covering all aspects of Neurosurgery including complex spine, cranial, vascular and functional.

The trust aims to provide a comprehensive 7-day service to patients, and this may affect the working patterns currently being advertised for this post. Any changes made to the working patterns will be made for the benefit of the patient care and notifications of these changes will be explained to you throughout the recruitment process.

The successful candidate will join a team of Neurosurgery junior clinical fellows with extensive exposure to various subspecialities in Neurosurgery.

The post holder will participate in ward-based work including completing procedures such as lumbar punctures and working as part of the multi-disciplinary team. We are one of the firsts units in the UK to utilise the Airo intra-operative CT scanner for spinal navigation. We regularly perform minimally invasive decompressions and percutaneous fixations and will be expanding our MISS capabilities with fully endoscopic spinal surgery in early 2024.

There are daily CEPOD, and elective theatre lists as well as weekly subspeciality MDT meetings.
• The post holder will participate in a 1:8 junior clinical fellow on call rota inclusive of nights.
• The post holder will be encouraged to undertake clinical outcome research and pathway development during the duration of the role.

Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.

As we recover from Covid-19, we’re proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.

We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
