Summary


We are looking to recruit a motivated, forward thinking Head and neck Cancer Specialist Nurse to join our team at Mersey and West Lancs Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. The successful applicant will play a key role in the management, care, and support of patients within the Head and neck Cancer service within an outpatient environment.

The role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Cancer Care can be complex and varied, involving interventions and communication with multiple health care professionals across primary and secondary care and other private and charitable organisations.

The CNS role improves the quality and experience of care for patients, reinforces patient safety, demonstrates leadership, and can increase productivity and efficiency (Macmillan 2013).

The post holder will,

Work within the ENT/MFU Specialist Team and will be responsible for assessing, implementing, and monitoring care of Cancer patients within the outpatient settings.

Deliver nurse led clinics and demonstrate a high level of practical skill in specialist procedures to benefit patient care.

Provide support to patients and carers ensuring the appropriate education to meet their physical, psychological, and social needs, referring to other agencies as appropriate.

Working in a small and friendly team within a larger CNS service, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of other dedicated and highly skilled healthcare professionals to care for patients and their families; delivering our high service standards, sharing best practice, and actively improving the way we work.

Be a point of contact for patients within the ENT/MFU department and will act as a resource to other professionals to optimise patient health, reduce risk and manage any issues related to their conditions.

You will provide autonomous nurse-led services alongside the rest of the team.

Examples of duties are:
• Offering support and signposting for patients at diagnosis and onwards.
• Providing symptom advice and support for a group of patients with complex and often fast changing needs.
• Holistic Needs Assessment.
• Multidisciplinary team working.
• Telephone assessment and follow-up.

The Secretary of State has approved the partnership between St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals and Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals.
