Summary

Assistant Registrar

About us

The Science Museum Group's Registration department is a thriving and dynamic team. We are seeking to recruit a new Assistant Registrar to focus on our loans and acquisitions programme and contribute to the Science and Industry Museum's active displays, exhibition and touring programmes. The Collections are extremely varied and range from industrial, transportation and aerospace, to art, social history and many others.

We are now recruiting for an Assistant Registrar to join the team based at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester with hybrid working available. You will be working 35 hours per week on a permanent contract

About the role

As an Assistant Registrar you will be given the chance to expand and develop your skills and knowledge in Registration. You will be managing new loans in/out and long loan in/out renewals for exhibitions or displays.

You will be managing acquisitions from initial proposal through to accessioning, in addition to providing Registration support during gallery installations and decants. You will ensure all registration work complies with relevant procedures and best practice regarding: documentation, packing, transportation, indemnity, due diligence and hazards management.

You will provide support on collections management issues to curatorial colleagues and other relevant internal and external stakeholders.

About you

Joining us you will have experience of registration work within a museum or cultural/heritage organisation. You will have experience in coordinating loans, exhibitions or acquisitions and an understanding of the Government Indemnity Scheme and how it applies to national museums.

You will be organised and possess the ability to manage a varied workload to tight deadlines. Crucially you will have effective interpersonal skills which will enable you to build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, you will also have the ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.
