Independence Support Assistant (ISA)

Salary: Band 7 £29,777 to £33,945 p.a. (£24,143 - £27,522 for 30 hours)

Your New Role

The Portsmouth City Council Carers Service provides support to unpaid carers through a range of services such as information and advice, access to breaks and group support and is part of Adult Social Care.

Working in a range of settings you will ensure that carers have the maximum choice, control and power over the support services they receive, helping them achieve the best possible outcomes as part of their caring role using as range of assessments and reviews. You will also provide advice and signposting or referrals to other services.

You will be responsible for managing a caseload of carers and at times, the person they are caring for identifying their individual needs, referring to other agencies where applicable, providing specific advice and information both over the phone and face to face visits in appropriate settings. You will ensure that all Portsmouth City adult protection policies, statutory responsibilities, and other Government guidance are adhered to, and concerns are raised in accordance with these policies. In addition, you will be required to carry out initial and regular reviews/updates to support plans to ensure they meet the changing needs and risk over time of the client.

The nature of this post will require flexibility to meet urgent work needs as they arise. This will inevitably entail some work outside normal office hours.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have good literacy and numeracy skills (A - C in Maths and English or equivalent qualification) as well as experience of working (paid or voluntary) in a care related field e.g., social care, health, therapeutic setting. You will have the ability to communicate sensitively positively and clearly to a wide range of people, as well as the ability to write clear, concise reports and letters and use IT systems. You will be approachable to vulnerable people and be able to acknowledge, respect and respond to individual differences and diversity requirements. You will be organised, calm under pressure and be able to meet deadlines. You will be flexible to work outside of normal office hours and be able to travel around the city to a range of locations including clients' homes. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
