Summary

1. BACKGROUND Leeds Children's Hospital is offering Out Of Programme Pause (OOPP) positions in 7 sub-speciality areas. OOPP positions allow trainees to take a step out of formal training for one year and have any competencies gained whilst out of training assessed upon their return. Leeds Childrens Hospital is offering 7 fantastic opportunities, starting in September 2024. Paediatric allergy Leeds Paediatric Allergy service provides a secondary and tertiary allergy service to children of Leeds and Yorkshire. The large multidisciplinary team includes paediatric allergy consultants, allergy nurses, allergy dietitians and clinical psychologist. The service supports children with IgE and non-IgE mediated food allergy, allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, drug allergy, venom allergy, chronic spontaneous urticaria and complex multisystem allergic disease. As a part of this exciting and unique role, successful post holder will experience allergy clinics, training in performing and interpretation of diagnostic tests including skin prick testing, intradermal testing, specific IgE blood testing, component resolved diagnostics, supervision of day-case provocation challenges and immunotherapy, attendance at departmental study days, as well as BSACI and BPAIIG study days 2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST As a part of these exciting and unique roles, successful post holder will have following clinical responsibilities Paediatric Allergy 1. Attendance at regular paediatric allergy clinics and after a period of training, undertaking general paediatric allergy clinics with support of the supervising consultant. 2. Training in performing and interpretation of diagnostic tests include skin prick testing, intradermal testing, specific IgE blood testing, component resolved diagnostics. 3. Active supervised role in consult service which involves seeing in-patient cases for all the sub-specialities within the hospital 4. Routine role in supervision of day-case provocation challenges and immunotherapy 5. Regular attendance at weekly clinical/educational meetings 6. Attendance at departmental study days, as well as BSACI and BPAIIG study days 3. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST 3.1 General Training and Qualifications See Person Specification. 3.2 Experience The successful applicant should be able to work at ST4-7 level or to be able to demonstrate equivalent level experience. The successful applicant will have both inpatient and outpatient duties They will need to be confident in the assessment of sick children They will need experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and have excellent verbal and written communication skills They will need to have a good understanding of research methodology and be able to supervise and support clinical assessments as part of a research study. They will need to have, or be prepared to undertake, good clinical practice (GCP) training. 3.3 Personal Attributes The appointee will have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communications about medical topics with patients and colleagues. They need to be enthusiastic, keen to learn and demonstrate commitment to delivering high quality care as part of the neurosciences team 3.4 Clinical Audit The appointee will be expected to attend and contribute to Audit meetings, mortality and morbidity meetings and application of agreed clinical guidelines. 6.
