We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Sociology and Psychology to join a thriving mainstream secondary school in Harlow, Essex, on a permanent basis.

Job Description: As the Head of Sociology and Psychology, you will lead the development and delivery of the sociology and psychology curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning and fostering a culture of academic excellence within the department. You will inspire and motivate both students and staff, promoting a passion for social sciences and providing guidance and support to enable students to achieve their full potential. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will contribute to the wider strategic direction of the school and play a key role in shaping the educational experience of students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the sociology and psychology department, providing direction, support, and guidance to staff to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
• Develop and implement schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment strategies in line with the national curriculum and examination board requirements.
• Monitor student progress and attainment, implementing intervention strategies as necessary to support students in achieving their academic goals.
• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported to succeed.
• Foster strong partnerships with parents/carers to promote student engagement and achievement.
• Keep abreast of developments in sociology and psychology education, incorporating new ideas and best practices into teaching and learning.
• Lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.

Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant subject specialism in sociology and/or psychology.
• Proven experience teaching sociology and/or psychology at secondary level, with a track record of delivering excellent results.
• Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and students.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve departmental and whole-school objectives.
• Commitment to promoting the welfare and wellbeing of students.
• Experience of leading or coordinating extracurricular activities or initiatives related to sociology and psychology would be advantageous.
