TITLE OF THE POST:

Rotational Trust Grade post in Specialist Surgery

GRADE:

ST1/2 CT1 level equivalent

SPECIALITY:

The construct of each post will be agreed with the successful candidates and will feature a combination of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, rotating around 2 to 3 specialties. The combination of specialties will be adjusted where possible to enhance each candidate's career plans. The candidates will work under the supervision of the clinical teams they are attached to and will contribute to out of hours work within the specialist surgery directorate.

BASE HOSPITALS:

WORK PATTERN:

Full shift

The main ENT Department is located in the West Wing at The John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. It provides emergency care and wide range of general and sub-specialty elective inpatient work for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire regions. Day surgery cases are treated in the West Wing, Churchill head and neck unit, The Horton, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and High Wycombe.

The department prides itself on being a regional tertiary referral Centre for head and neck oncology, skull base surgery and neurology, pediatric ENT, specialist rhinology and otology including cochlear implants and bone anchored hearing aids. It is the hub of the Regional SpR Training Program. It is an extremely well supported department with ample opportunity for learning and development and successful applicants will join a well-respected and recognized department and team.

The successful candidate will be expected to organize/deliver a weekly program of teaching for nurses/ allied health care professionals and junior doctors/medical students. You will be responsible to delivering skills-based teaching to junior doctors and medical students and monitoring their progress. Once a month you will be expected to organize departmental training in conjunction with the clinical governance/teaching lead.

OUH Trust is a large world class specialist teaching hospital providing secondary care for the whole of Oxfordshire as well being a tertiary referral Centre. The services of the Trust are provided from four hospitals: The John Radcliffe Hospital, The Churchill Hospital, The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, and The Horton Hospital in Banbury.

This post will be for 12 months from August 2023. The successful applicant will be expected to be involved in the following:
• Patient care: The successful candidate will be expected to undertake regular outpatient clinical activities including but not limited to – nasal fracture clinic, aural care clinics, emergency ENT clinic and otitis externa clinics.
• Theatres – there will be opportunities to allow the fellow to attend regular day care theatre sessions.
• The fellow may be required to participate in the out of hours on call Rota.

In addition, there will be opportunities to be involved in the following for educational and training purposes:
• Departmental teaching sessions
• Clinical Governance meetings
• Audit, Research and Quality Improvement

There is plenty of support to participate in projects within the department.
