Summary


This post will span the clinical and research gamut of Movement Disorders to
develop clinical, research and teaching skills for the successful applicant. The
position will provide sub-specialist experience in Parkinson’s and Movement
Disorders neurology to consultant level, in addition to movement disorders
research, and delivery of clinical neurosciences undergraduate teaching. The
post will support the medical and neurosurgical management of movement
disorders at OUHFT under the supervision of Prof Michele Hu and Dr
Nagaraja Sarangmat, with neurosciences undergraduate teaching supervised
by Programme Director Prof Gabriele de Luca.

The Fellow will be expected to see new and follow-up patients at two OUHFT outpatient clinics per week at the Department of Neurology, John Radcliffe Hospital West Wing. One clinic will alternate between a weekly medical Parkinson’s disease clinic and a national atypical Parkinsonism clinic comprising MSA, PSP and CBS patients (supervisor Prof Michele Hu). The medical Parkinson’s clinic will also provide experience in Duodopa and Apomorphine therapies for complex Parkinson’s disease. The second clinic will comprise 2 DBS PD-Movement disorders clinics per month, 1 botulinum toxin clinic per month and 1 neurogenetics/ ataxia clinic per month to offer a broad range of experience. All clinics will be discussed in advance and agreed between the successful applicant and their supervisors, to best match their sub-specialist experience.



The Fellow will also be expected to work effectively with the PD Nurse Specialist Team (2 Community-based, 1 OUHFT trust-based) and provide advice on inpatient/outpatient management where appropriate. Attendance and presentation at a monthly Parkinson’s and atypical PD MDT, attended by Consultant Neurologists, Consultant Psychiatrists and Specialist Nurses is expected.
