About you

Are you self-motivated, happy working in a team environment and flexible enough to adapt to a changing environment? If this sounds
like you, here are some specific types of experience that will help you hit the ground running.



It would be great if you had experience and knowledge of:

* Knowledge of technical operations for live events, gained through either at least three years professional experience working
in venues or external sites (with a capacity of at least 400 seats)
* Proven experience of high competence in one or more of the following disciplines: lighting, audio, audio visual, Health &
Safety, production management, stage management
* Ability to read and implement technical layout plans
* Developed IT skills and ability to assimilate new technology and software
* In depth knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and safe working practices including noise at work and working at height
* Experience of safe operation of flying systems, including basic rigging knowledge and experience of operating motor chain
hoists, with ability to read rigging plans
* Line management and motivation of multi-disciplined technical staff (permanent and freelance/casuals),
* An organised yet flexible approach and ability to work to tight deadlines whilst remaining calm under pressure
* Demonstrable ability to work as a team and under your own initiative
* Excellent attention to detail
* Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to talk to people on their own level and to create good
relationships within the team and with other departments
* Ability to be creative and resourceful in problem-solving

* Willingness to work flexibly across a 7 day-a-week rota to include evenings, weekend and bank holidays




It also helps if you have:

* IOSH qualification and/or experience of preparing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (or willingness to undertake within 2
years)




Overall purpose of the role

* To manage training and development within the Technical Team
* To line manage the Deputy Senior Technician and Stage Technicians
* To support producing the Technical Rota, ensuring events are staffed appropriately
* To regularly work on events
* Work with the Technical Manager and Senior Production Manager on the implementation of all aspects of Health & Safety
legislation within the Technical Team
* Work with the Technical Manager to implement all statutory inspections of technical machinery & equipment
* To deputise for the Technical Manager, as required



You’ll be responsible for:




Continuous Improvement ,Training & Development: Manage training and development within the team through identifying opportunities
and delivering training to members of the team, ensuring they remain updated with industry advancements and best practices.

* Manage the training matrix
* Collaborate with the Technical Manager to pinpoint areas for process enhancement, new technology adoption, and team skill
development
* Deliver and facilitate training
* Through line management processes, identify areas for industry relevant personal development
* Create and manage inductions, training certifications and programs to develop skillsets within the team



Team Management: Directly manage and provide guidance, support, and mentorship to a team of Stage Technicians, fostering a culture
of excellence and continuous learning.

* Line manage the Deputy Senior Technician and Stage Technicians
* Inspire, motivate, and develop, providing leadership, advocacy and representation within the Technical Team
* Ensure the right support and technical systems are in place for Technicians to work to the best of their ability
* Conduct regular 1-2-1 meetings and PDR/Appraisals with reporting team members
* Lead any performance reviews and disciplinary proceedings of reporting team members
* Act as an on-call Duty Technician, as part of a shared responsibility with other senior members of the team (includes on call
payment)
* Deputise for Senior Technician (Scheduling) and Technical Manager, when required



Administration: Oversee administrative functions of all Training and Development, ensuring that processes are streamlined and
documentation is consistently up to date.



Event Staffing Management: Support senior members of the team in managing allocation of Technical Production staff and contractors
to all events, through thorough pre-planning and resourcing, guaranteeing each event can be produced to the highest technical and
safety standards.

* Manage and allocate all staffing for events (including freelance contractors)
* Produce staffing rota by agreeing staffing requirements with Production Management team and Technical Manager
* Work with Technical Co-Ordinator to oversee booking and management of casual staff and freelance contractors



Safety & Compliance: Proactively support Technical Manager and the team to ensure all events comply with health and safety
regulations. Following guidelines, take responsibility for always working safely in all areas of the venue.

* Work with the Technical Manager to develop and encourage safe working practices (compliant with Health and Safety regulations)
in all aspects of the department’s work and to ensure awareness of legislation changes within the sphere of operation.
* Work with Technical Manager to ensure any equipment allocated for events has been maintained to a high standard and meets the
requirements of all statutory Health & Safety regulations
* Ensure production of Health and Safety documentation (ie Risk Assessments) for events



Client Relations: Cultivate robust relationships, focusing on clear communication and exceeding client expectations.

* Collaborate with internal departments and external clients, sustaining and developing new and existing relationships



Reporting: Collaborate with members of the team on event outcomes, technical challenges, and performance.

* Assist Technical Manager and senior members of the team in reviewing processes and events, for further analysis and strategic
planning.



Maintenance & Inspections: Support Technical Manager during planning and implementation of all maintenance & H&S inspections on
technical equipment

* Work with Technical Manager to ensure staffing levels are correct for statutory inspections and preventative maintenance of all
technical equipment



Policies & Procedures: Adhere to and enforce all organisational policies, including but not limited to Safeguarding, Health &
Safety, Customer Care, Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity.

* Ensure reporting staff are aware of and adhere to all organisational policies and procedures




Events: To work on events, shows and rehearsals as part of the Technical Production teams

* Undertake duties as a Technician, if required (see separate Technician Job Description for duties)

All other duties as may reasonably be required:

* Undertake other duties appropriate to the seniority of the post and in line with the needs of the organisation.
* Accept appropriate individual responsibility for the observance, promotion and implementation of Health & Safety, Safeguarding,
Customer Care, Inclusion, Equity and Diversity, Discrimination, Bullying and Harassment and all other policies with the Trust.
* Where relevant, ensure appropriate safeguarding is in place for children, young people and adults at risk, working closely with
relevant colleagues to maintain consistency and high standards
* Help the Technical Team to work efficiently and to the highest standards
