Summary

Technical Specialist (Trace Element Analysis)

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Technical Specialist.

The successful candidate will work within the Cardiff Environmental Laboratory for Trace Element and Isotope Chemistry (CELTIC) facility, specifically providing advice and guidance on trace element analysis and supporting the work of a PhD student on the externally funded UNDO enhanced rock weathering project.

The post holder will have substantial experience and demonstrable specialist knowledge within the field of trace element analysis and will be responsible for measuring trace elements on rock, soil, and water samples by sector field-high resolution mass spectrometry, undertaking all aspects of sample processing, preparation, analysis, and data reduction.

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a dynamic and successful multi-disciplinary centre devoted to research. Our CELTIC facility provides high precision isotope and trace metal analyses to tackle a wide range of research within geosciences, such as planetary evolution and habitability, environmental and climate change, and human migration. The facility hosts a range of instruments for low level trace metal and isotope work along with two class 1000 clean rooms dedicated for low blank processing of geological samples for trace metal and isotope measurements.

The University is committed to offering flexibility, wherever the role and business need allows, supporting work-life balance. This is a full-time position (35 hours per week), available immediately and is fixed term for 3 years. The position is based in the University Main Building.

Salary: £32,332 – £34,980 per annum (Grade 5)
