Summary

Join us as Head of Private Banking & Investment Communications

  • We’ll look to you to develop and lead the communications strategy for our Coutts business, producing high quality, engaging colleague communications and leading the corporate affairs agenda
  • You’ll play a key role in promoting and protecting the reputation of the bank with key external influencers through strategic advice, impactful proactive campaigns and expert issue management
  • It’s an opportunity to develop relationships with key external influencers, and people throughout the business, including senior executives, while providing excellent support on corporate affairs activities

What you'll do

In this influential role, you’ll be accountable for the success of communication on key organisational priorities, originating from the business. You’ll focus on leadership communications, strategy and performance communications, and customer, frontline and operational communications support.

You’ll be leading the communications resource to build a communications plan that supports the delivery of the business’s strategic goals. As part of this, you’ll develop and deliver a corporate affairs strategy for the franchise that enables business success and improves the bank’s reputation, including handling the bank’s response to reputational challenges.

You’ll also be:

  • Proactively managing the appropriate franchise of the business in relations with key external influencers and advocacy groups
  • Advising and supporting senior leaders to build capability, and delivering clear, commercially focused communication and advising respective ExCo members
  • Making sure that proactive media and public affairs plans are in place to support the priorities of the various brands across the business
  • Making sure that engagement plans are in place for the business franchise leadership team with ministers, parliamentarians, influencers, advocacy groups and the media
  • Providing intelligence, counsel and advice to franchise ExCo on key political and media risks and opportunities

The skills you'll need

To take on this role, you’ll need significant communications experience in a large corporate setting, preferably in financial services. Alongside strong communications, networking and influencing skills at senior, executive and board level, you’ll be a strategic thinker with the ability to translate strategy and plans into simple actionable steps.

You’ll bring a track record of delivering complex, strategic communication, paired with excellent leadership skills and a strong network within banking, finance and across key media and political influencers.

In addition, you’ll need:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of private banking
  • The ability to act as a senior spokesperson for the organisation
  • A strong grasp of political and economic issues
  • Working knowledge of IT programmes and media and political databases
  • Knowledge of social media and digital engagement
  • The ability to prioritise effectively and work under pressure to meet deadlines
