Summary

Role overview

Main Purpose of the Role

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our small Engineering team. You will be based at our site in
Coventry working, reporting to the Design Engineering Manager. There is the opportunity to work a hybrid work pattern and some
site work will be required to assist with installation, SAT tests and variations.




In this role you will lead on the design and manufacture of electrical control and distribution panels through to commissioning
and other Samuel James Engineering products for the rail industry.




Main Responsibilities:

* To design, quote and produce electrical control and distribution panels through to testing and commissioning
* Provide technical support for operational employees and external customers
* Project Management of each job – design, quotes, creation of O&M manuals, technical, quality, commissioning, after care support
and testing
* Tender and management of Maintenance Contracts
* Apply knowledge, skill and experience to design and implementation of new innovative solutions
* Work to and maintain the production schedule
* Review profit and loss of each job
* Order planning
* Delegate projects to other members of the design team and assist with technical queries raised
* Ensure all activities undertaken are fully compliant with quality management system and in accordance with health and safety
requirements




Essential Criteria

* HNC/ HND / Degree in Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent (Level 4 academic)
* Experience of specifying and designing Low Voltage ( 110, 230, 400 & 650 volts) Power distribution system
* Commercial acumen and experience of design to cost
* AutoCAD experience
* Experience of managing customer projects, from start to commissioning
* Good IT skills (Excel / Access, Google Sheets)
* Experience in product design lifecycle – from concept to introduction into manufacturing (ideally in safety critical industry)
* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
* Passion for producing innovative design solutions
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage, negotiate and influence across different levels of technical staff and
customers,
* Ability to work independently and deliver to targets and timescales
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
* Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast paced environment



Desirable

* Knowledge of Rail industry and Network Rail standards
* Personal Track Safety (PTS) certified
* Experience of mechanical design
* Autodesk Inventor experience
