UHCW NHS Trust is looking for highly motivated and experienced Band 6 Physiotherapists to join the expanding in-patient teams based within University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

The post consists of four annual rotations through Cardiothoracic, General Critical Care, Neuro-Respiratory and Respiratory Medicine.

The Cardiothoracic Unit is a regional centre encompassing ITU, HDU, step down and the Cardiothoracic ward where a range of routine and complex cardiac, thoracic and upper GI surgeries are performed.

The General Critical Care Unit comprises 26 beds encompassing a varied and challenging caseload of Major Trauma, Neurosurgical and general ICU and HDU patients.

The Respiratory Medicine rotation comprises a 42 bedded Respiratory and NIV ward and 48 bedded Respiratory and Infectious Disease ward, which has a varied mix of chronic and acute respiratory patients who may require NIV during their exacerbation, and general medical patients. The caseload also comprises patients transferred from Critical Care, continuing their rehabilitation programme to optimise exercise tolerance and functional recovery.

The Neuro caseload includes patients who may be respiratory compromised who are transferred into the Neuro Enhanced Care Unit, SCI patients, neuromuscular patients (MG, GBS, MND) as well as new chest infections.

The successful candidates will work within integrated teams of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. We are looking for applicants who have developed knowledge and skills to assess and treat patients with a wide variety of conditions within an acute setting. You should also have experience in staff and student supervision, training and appraisal. Previous involvement in service developments and audits would be advantageous.

The post holder will be required to participate in the overnight on call and weekend respiratory rota as well as the 7 day service rota for their specific area. Training and support will be provided as required to enable participation in the respiratory rota.

All of the Therapy teams are led by experienced Band 7 Therapists who will support you in your learning and professional development. The Therapy Department values the importance of professional development, training and high quality clinical supervision for all our staff. We have a well-established appraisal system in place alongside regular and varied CPD opportunities.

• Manage a caseload of respiratory patients in designated rotation with varying diagnosis and/or complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in a defined clinical area.
• Participate in the weekend and on call respiratory rota.
• Ensure development of junior staff through supervision, training and annual appraisal.
• Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of clinical practice & service development within area.
• Contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust Physiotherapy service.
