Summary

A Vacancy at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking 1-2 enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team at the West Middlesex Site of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We wish to appoint suitably trained and experienced doctors with NHS experience as Senior Clinical Fellows to work as Senior Registrars with a special interest in Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology. This post is ideal for candidates seeking an Out of Programme Training for Clinical Experience (OOPE) and completion of the Early Pregnancy and Acute gynaecology ATSM.

The post will also provide specialised training towards the completion of the intermediate module in Early pregnancy and Acute gynaecology ultrasound scanning. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the SpR on call Rota and will be provided with an Educational Supervisor. A second candidate, if appointed, may not be required to contribute to the on call Rota.

The successful candidate should be registered with the GMC and should have relevant NHS experience to work at the level of ST5 -7 within a busy Obstetrics and Gynaecology unit.

It is expected that the interviews will be conducted virtually either on Zoom or Microsoft Teams. For more information, please contact Miss Natalie Nunes at nnunes@nhs.net or Miss Anjali Sharma at anjali.sharma1@nhs.net.

During the course of the appointment the Clinical Fellow will be trained in ultrasound scanning for early pregnancy and acute gynaecology to at least an intermediate level or ATSM level as appropriate. The Clinical Fellow will be trained in performing surgical management of miscarriage (SMM) under local anaesthesia using the manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) technique. The post holder will also be trained in performing acute emergency gynaecology procedures such as SMM for scar ectopic pregnancies under ultrasound guidance, more complex SMMs under ultrasound guidance, laparoscopic salpingectomy/salgingotomy for tubal ectopic pregnancies and laparoscopic drainage of tubo-ovarian abscesses.

During the post, the Clinical Fellow will have the opportunity to undertake a minimum 2 audits within the department which will be suitable for the ATSM but also suitable for presentation at the Association of Early Pregnancy Units (AEPU) annual conference. The post holder will also be involved with the gynaecology risk management team for assessment and presentation of clinical incidents or near-misses. The post-holder will be involved with the research within the early pregnancy and gynaecology departments and if interested, there will be the opportunity to submit for ethics approval to conduct their own original research in future years if the post is extended. Clinical work will be undertaken to provide on-call cover as directed by the Clinical Director.

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
