Purpose of Job:
The Planning Officer is responsible for assisting in the design and conduct of surveys, preparation of policies and plans, processing planning applications, and providing expert advice on planning matters. They play a crucial role in contributing to the Council’s planning, regeneration, and economic development policies and ensuring their implementation.
Summary of Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Professional/Technical:
Assist in surveys, data collection, and preparation of maps, plans, and sketches.
Evaluate planning applications and assess compliance with Council policies.
Assist in drafting reports, policies, and proofs of evidence.
Contribute to the provision of comprehensive planning and regeneration strategies.
Communications:
Respond to inquiries from the public, developers, and other authorities on planning matters.
Participate in public participation programs and attend relevant events and meetings.
Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders on planning issues.
Miscellaneous:
Ensure compliance with Equal Opportunities, Customer Care, and Environmental policies.
Adhere to Health and Safety regulations and Council procedures.
Utilize electronic data processing equipment for data management.
Additional Responsibilities (for SO1/SO2 and PO1/PO2 levels):
Process major and minor planning applications and prepare reports.
Represent the division/group at internal and external meetings and forums.
Assist in supervision, development, and training of staff (PO1/PO2).
Deal with major and sensitive development proposals and stakeholders (PO2).
Qualifications:
Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or possess equivalent planning experience.
