Summary

5.1 Responsibility for People Management To provide practice supervision to a range of qualified and non-qualified staff working within Adult Social Care. To promote continuous professional development and the delivery of high quality support to users To provide advice and assistance to Social Workers and Community Care Workers in relation to complex case work. To support workers to manage work within their caseloads as well as managing the emotional demands of their own workload. To facilitate and support the professional development of social care staff by providing professional supervision. To provide a clear and responsive practice leadership role within the Team including demonstrating best practice, mentoring staff and promoting the highest professional standards via peer reviews and audits. To manage performance of staff in collaboration with the Deputy Head, including the implementation, monitoring and review of practice improvement action plans for individuals and groups of staff. Concentration required when providing supervisions and practice guidance; ensuring staff work within legislation, national and local procedures. There will be conflicting demands when more than one person requires support at the same time. Conflicting information may require the post holder to use judgement to assess a particular situation and decide on the best resolution and advise the worker accordingly. 5.2 Responsibility for financial and/or physical resource Implementation of ASC duties under the Care Act and delivery of the Scheme of Delegation 5.3 Responsibility for administration To allocate work across the team on a daily basis ensuring effective flow of work, achievement of departmental targets for productivity and quality. Audit and maintenance of documentation in line with professional standards. 5.4 Responsibility for people who use our services To quality assure assessments and support plans. To participate in Case Reviews and assist with Deprivation of Liberty investigations. Delegated responsibility on a day to day basis for supporting staff with issues such as: Protection of Vulnerable Adults Procedures, promoting personalisation and risk enablement. To undertake duties based on current professional knowledge as well as legislative and statutory requirements. Demonstrates a high level of professional competence in social work practice to nationally recognized standards, adopting a person-centred and reflective approach. To maintain a knowledge and expertise of the work the service undertakes in order to contribute to the development of services including best practice systems and protocols which support the delivery of a quality service and reflect any changes required. Relaying of information to service users and carers where personal budgets do not meet expectations requiring the application of judgement and empathetic negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Travel to visit service users homes, attend meetings and court. To chair Best Interest meetings, Risk management meetings and Safeguarding /conference meetings 5.5 Responsibility for implementation of policy and/or service developments Assist Deputy Head to develop the team to meet key performance requirements. To assist with the implementation of and application of Livewell Southwest policies and procedures. 7. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB The post holder will be predominantly office based and will be required to use IT equipment. There may be times when the post holder will be required to meet with individual service users to support practitioners, or respond to the service quality issues or complaints. On these occasions the post holder may be subject to abusive situations whilst working with service users who are volatile or unpredictable or exhibiting aggressive or challenging behaviours. May need to be available to work within any of the Livewell Southwest sites as required. 8. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR ALL POSTS The post holder is required to comply with all relevant policies and procedures pertinent to their post. Failure to follow correct policies and procedures may result in disciplinary action. 5.6 Other Responsibilities To take a lead for the service on a specific area such as NHS CHC. To play an active role in facilitating effective communication across the organisation and through the line management structure. To demonstrate competence in the range of duties contained within the knowledge and skills framework for this post. To help to develop positive links with partner organisations. To ensure that the health and safety responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the Departments Health and Safety policy and procedures Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post. Due to the direct involvement with service users the post holder may be subject to emotional demands. 7. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR ALL POSTS The post holder is required to comply with all relevant policies and procedures pertinent to their post. 8.1 Risk Management In accordance with the Risk Management Strategy, employees will participate, whenever required, with the risk management process. They will support line managers by attending mandatory and statutory training, completing incident/accident forms for every adverse event or near miss that occurs, report all defects and complaints, and communicate any dangerous situation to individuals potentially at risk. 8.2 Health and Safety at Work You must co-operate with those in authority and others in meeting the statutory requirements and in following policies and procedures. A copy of the Health and Safety Policy is available from the intranet or from the Risk Management Department. You are reminded that in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 you have a duty to take reasonable care to avoid injury to yourself and to others affected by your work activities. You will be notified where your post carries a requirement for immunisation. You may be required to be able to undertake physical intervention training and participate in physical intervention as part of a physical intervention team and Basic Life Support (BLS).8.3 Infection Control Livewell Southwest is determined to eradicate healthcare-acquired infection and puts a great deal of emphasis on the responsibility of all staff to ensure their own personal and others compliance with Infection Control (including Hand Washing) Policies. All staff must comply with infection control policies and guidance, attend relevant updates and report issues of concern to their immediate line manager (if no action or explanation received, then it is the individuals responsibility to escalate their concerns to the Director of Operations or Chief Executives Office). 8.4 Safeguarding Children and Adults All employees have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults and are required to act in such a way that at all times safeguards their health and wellbeing. Familiarisation with and adherence to national and local safeguarding adults and children policies is an essential requirement upon all employees. Livewell Southwest has specific safeguarding policies and in addition, employees also have a responsibility to practice and work within the multi-agency policy developed by the Safeguarding Adults Board and the Safeguarding Children Board. Staff are also required to participate in related mandatory/statutory training. 8.6 Sustainability and climate change All staff are expected to take responsibility for the reduction of carbon emissions within their area of the organisation. In particular this may relate to reducing energy consumption, making low carbon travel choices, consideration of goods and services being purchased, and waste reduction. 8.7 Other This Job Description is not exhaustive and may change as the post develops, but such change will not take place without consultation between the post holder and their manager. Job descriptions should be reviewed at least annually at the appraisal meeting. The Working Time Regulations apply to all employees of Livewell Southwest. In particular, Livewell Southwest will not permit staff in all employments to work in excess of 48 hours in any one week except where there are exceptional service needs where an absolute limit of averaging over a reference period of 17 weeks would apply. Livewell Southwest has adopted NO SMOKING and NO ALCOHOL policies for staff, which applies to all posts.
