About the Role
Join our Safety & Behaviour team as a mid-career Vehicle Safety Engineer as a consultant with at least five years' experience in vehicle safety or a related field. Contribute to impactful projects for commercial and government mobility initiatives, focusing on safer vehicles within the Safe System approach, including ADAS and automated driving. Work with experts in risk management, collision research, policy development, and more to drive forward critical safety solutions in the automotive industry.

We are open to considering full or part-time applications. Occasional travel is required for face-to-face client meetings and site visits.

Key Duties / Responsibilities
• Collaborate on vehicle safety research and consultancy projects within the Safe System approach.
• Provide expertise in ADAS, automated driving, collision research, and mitigation strategies.
• Assist in developing vehicle safety policies and standards for commercial and government mobility projects.
• Provide risk management solutions and contribute to economic appraisals of interventions.
• Work on diverse safety initiatives within TRL's scope, partnering with experts in various disciplines.
• Provide insights and recommendations to enhance roadside safety across transport infrastructures.

Skills & Experience
• Proficiency in vehicle design, technologies, and regulations, with a strong grasp of automated driving systems (ADAS) being advantageous.
• Ability to analyse data, interpret information, and deliver logical presentations, coupled with excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
• Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, and organisational prowess to effectively manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks.
• Self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with a proactive approach, possessing a strong educational background, ideally with a 2:1 or above in engineering or science, and preferably holding a PhD or MSc qualification.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel, along with fluency in written and verbal English.
