Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced senior nurse to lead a Nursing Team at Bedford Hospital.

We are looking for a reliable, motivated and enthusiastic Unit Manager to manage our Acute assessment unit team. A proven track record in managing change and leading teams through change is essential.

The individual will be required to provide clinical leadership and direction to the unit team. The successful candidate should be a team player, communicator and a good administrator with clinical governance and management experience.

The applicant will have energy, commitment and the desire to develop nurses in this particular area of healthcare. The role involves managerial activity and clinical input ensuring that high quality standards are set out and to maintain a high standard of holistic, quality care within a multi-disciplinary setting.

The applicant will be expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to sensitively manage change.

The individual will also need to provide evidence of continuous professional development

We are searching for a confident committed clinical leader who is driven by challenges and can demonstrate personal resilience whilst working in a fast moving and changing care environment. You should have experience of staff and change management, motivating and empowering your team to ensure consistently high standards of care are set and delivered.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision and delivery of care to acute medical patients admitted directly to the unit from A&E.

The post holder will be accountable for co-ordinating patient care and management of resources and performance of staff whilst ensuring safe and effective clinical practice.

To lead, manage and develop team performance, promote professionalism and trust.

Ensure efficient and effective use of resources, managing a devolved budget

All new staff will be subject to a probationary period covering their first six months in post. Travel between hospital sites may be required.

To attend the necessary bed meetings with up-to-date and accurate information regarding bed status, flow and patient safety.

Works collaboratively with the patient Flow Team in relation to decisions on patient flow issues

Works collaboratively with the inter-professional team in order to comply with the Trust and Departmental escalation plans, ensuring that relevant senior staff have been informed of position and appropriate action taken

Manage resources within agreed budgets as set by the budget holder

To be able to identify and manage performance issues including attendance, professional conduct, capability, etc. and liaise with HR as required

Actively promote professional development amongst staff within the unit

Be able to work collaboratively with the inter-professional team and other members of staff on different wards/departments

Clinically assesses new patients coming through the Unit and ensure the patient is moved to the appropriate clinical area within the hospital.

Participates in the induction of staff and preceptorship of staff and assist in the supervision, support, training and assessment of registered and non-registered skilled workers

To demonstrates written communication through the ability to record accurate, succinct, clear and legible reports and documentation

To escalate clinical concerns to the relevant clinician/teams as per escalation policies in a timely manner

Is able to deputise for the matron

Hold bleep 309 (staffing) and organise and deploy appropriate staff throughout the Trust to ensure patient safety (After 6 months ).
