Summary

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic specialist to join the National Biodiversity Section in the Environment and Business. As an adviser within the Species Licensing and Professional Development team you will work across a range of areas including:
• Managing our Ecological Services Framework which procures specialist ecological services for teams and project managers across the business.
• Supporting the management of our protected species organisational licence and ensuring that staff using it have access to up-to-date advice, guidance and training.
• Chairing networks and developing newsletters and other communications to support the wider biodiversity community.

In this role you will part of a dispersed team so location is flexible and will require hybrid working i.e. a mixture of working from home and a designated office base. In addition occasional travel will be required to connect with your team and colleagues in the EA more generally.

The post will sit within the National Biodiversity Section, part of the Nature and Place Directorate in Environment and Business. We provide the national lead on biodiversity/nature themes, are responsible for strategic leadership and technical advice across the organisation and externally. We work with others to improve delivery of integrated outcomes, with biodiversity at their heart. We help staff understand and implement statutory and policy duties and understand ecological objectives and responses to environmental pressures.

As well as the expected skills and experience required of an Advisor role (AS05), applicants should also have –
• Graduate and/or Post-Graduate Qualification in which biodiversity/ ecology and environmental management was a major component of study (Essential);
• Demonstrable relevant technical expertise and experience of working in the fields of biodiversity, nature conservation and/or ecology (Essential), particularly relating to protected species (Desirable);
• Good communication skills (Desirable)
• Evidence of on-going learning and development/CPD (Desirable);
• Membership of an appropriate professional organisation (Desirable).
• Experience of project or contract management (Desirable)
