Further information:
A personal assistant (carer) is required for 15 hours a week to provide personal and domestic assistance for a middle-aged gentleman who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and resides in the HU5 area (West Hull).
Please note the gentleman uses an electric wheelchair, utilises a ceiling track hoist and has a wet room for showering et cetera.
The 15 hours make up one shift between 6 PM and 9 AM the next day and are required for a Wednesday night through to Thursday morning on a weekly basis (although this is negotiable); although other shifts may be available in the future; the duties involve (but this list is not exhaustive):
• Putting the gentleman to bed;
• On call to assist with comfort during the night;
• Getting the gentleman ready in the morning;
• Toiletry;
• Dressing and washing; and
• General household duties (shopping, cleaning, ironing, et cetera)

The gentleman in question has a good sense of humour and, amongst other things, likes to read and play chess, watch television, listen to music and other similar activities. However, please note, that the household is a smoking environment.

Applicants should also have a strongly developed sense of social justice in supporting the social inclusion of disabled people in their local community. In addition, they should be honest, reliable, and good at communicating, tolerant and non-judgemental and able to build good relationships based on trust and respect.
