Dunbar Education is currently seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant school community in Milton Keynes. The school caters to children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Social Communication difficulties, ranging from 4 to 19 years old. It's important to note that most students are non-verbal, so any experience with non-verbal learning would be highly beneficial.
Essential Qualities:
- Proactive attitude towards supporting students with SEN.
- Passionate about making a difference in the lives of SEN children.
- Ability to listen attentively and follow initiative.
- Flexibility and resilience when working with diverse SEN needs on a daily basis.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience working in SEN settings.
- Previous experience in care roles.
- Experience with non-verbal learning methods.
- Possession of a DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one.
Job Description:
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to support the learning and development of students with SEN within the classroom and other educational settings. Your duties may include:
- Providing one-to-one or small group support to students with SEN, both academically and socially.
- Assisting the class teacher in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
- Creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and respected.
- Encouraging independence and fostering positive relationships with students, promoting their self-esteem and confidence.
- Collaborating with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists, to support students' individual needs.
- Assisting with personal care and hygiene tasks, if required.
- Participating in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in working with SEN students.
