Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home offers young people a safe, caring environment, where they will experience quality care, education, vocational and life skills training.
As a Night Care Assistant you will be making a difference by ensuring the welfare and care of young people at our Secure Children’s Home during the evening and night time.
What will you be doing? • During your shifts, you will monitor all young people at least every five to fifteen minutes to ensure they are safe and secure. You will also be involved with undertaking social duties, including talking with clients and providing reassure to enable them to have a good nights’ sleep.
• It will be your responsibility to issue non prescribed medication and personal hygiene materials as necessary.
• You will answer the buzzers from young people immediately and assist in any way.
• Daily, you will wake the young people and supervise breakfast and room cleaning as required.
• It will be key for you to record and maintain written records when necessary.
What we need from you
• You must have an NVQ Level 2 in a relevant subject area or a good standard of education. • It is essential for you to have the ability to help clients cater for their personal needs in a sensitive and professional manner.
• You will have knowledge or previous experience of dealing with young people who present challenging behaviour.
Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
Things we need you to know: Salary is plus Secure Unit allowance of £2,583 per annum, pro-rated to hours worked.
The home works on shift patterns, you will be working an average of 37 hours per week, following a designated shift pattern working a pattern of 4 on 4 off, alternate weekends and some shifts may be on bank holidays.
Young people can present physically threatening behaviour and the environment can become tense and anxiety provoking, so for everybody’s safety surveillance cameras are in use in most areas of the building. Vinney Green operates a full non-smoking environment, and there is no provision to facilitate smoking anywhere on site. Staff’s personal belongings are required to be left in a provided locker on entry into the building and we may require you to undertake a further physical fitness check. This role is demanding and there will be some physical active aspects to the job, but we can assure you that this will be one of the most rewarding jobs that you will ever do!
