Summary


We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our Team within the busy Accident & Emergency Department.

The role includes organising and tracking equipment within the department, ensuring that clinical equipment is clean, well maintained and serviced, co-ordinating services with our external partners including domestic and hostess services to ensure patients are cared for in a safe, clean environment.

The role requires an ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, the ability to work within a multi-professional team and an understanding of the needs of patients in health care. Basic IT skills are essential

To monitor all cleaning on the ward against agreed standards and policy including specialist equipment and isolation nursing areas.

Take appropriate action to deal with spot cleaning.

In conjunction with the multi professional teams, ensure the ward is safe and tidy at all times.

To monitor the patient meals service, including the provision of snacks and beverages, offering support and assistance to the hostess, as required.

To ensure areas where food and beverages are served/consumed are prepared to standard to ensure a pleasant environment for patients.

To assist patients to order food, to provide eating assistance and encourage patients to eat where appropriate.

To carry out regular equipment monitoring in accordance with procedures documenting as appropriate.

To ensure equipment to be returned for reprocessing is recorded and stored safely.

To ensure the transport and disposal of clinical, domestic and confidential waste as per the policy.

To ensure the patient’s space is clean, tidy and clutter free.

To respect the privacy and dignity of patients whilst carrying out housekeeping duties.

To maintain the safety of property and belongings in line with Trust policy, completing all necessary documentation.

To ensure patients have adequate supplies and taking action as necessary.

To ensure the ward have sufficient stocks to meet patient and staff needs, ordering stock, reporting shortages and maintaining records as appropriate.

To assist people with accessing and interpreting written information e.g. cards and letters.

To explain the correct use of equipment to patients and those accompanying them e.g. nurse call and patient line.





We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way inreducing the time our patientswait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to beaccredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of theNorth East London Cancer Alliance.
