Join our community.

We have an amazing opportunity to join the bank as Head of Core Architecture.

Business Platforms Architecture is part of the wider CTO function within Santander UK. It works closely with other architecture teams (Technical, Data & Security Architecture) and liaises with Business and IT colleagues in Santander UK, as well as the wider Santander Group.

You'll use your expertise to look at the application landscape and work with the business, CIO and group colleagues to develop strategic roadmaps and provide solution architecture capabilities enabling successful delivery. As part of the Business Platforms Architecture leadership team, you'll also focus on the tools and processes required to manage a complex application estate effectively, as well as managing cross domain initiatives.

If your skills and experience are aligned to architecture practices across the enterprise and solution domains, with demonstrable experience working within a large and complex organisation, this could be the role for you!

The difference you'll make:

  • Driving the development of strategic plans and roadmaps that will improve Santander UK's ability to manage its architectural landscape & application estate

  • Aligning delivery teams & sub-domain architecture teams to the strategy as it evolves across Santander, working across all business lines to link this to business objectives

  • Reviewing, defining and maintaining complex Strategic and Transitional Architectures, ensuring that architecture is holistic eg. Functional, in order to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions

  • Communicating complex concepts and strategies, to drive and influence a diverse set of stakeholders, ensuring consistency and understanding within the organisation - UK & Group - and externally

  • Managing domain Enterprise and Solution Architects to ensure that designs meet the banks strategic needs and goals. Architectures need to consider functional, technical, network, infrastructure, security aspects and cross domain dependencies in order to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions

  • Ensuring that key architectural decisions are governed, providing guidance, input and ensuring consistency in deliverables, whilst managing caveats and resolving associated actions

What you'll bring:

  • Comprehensive experience of working as an Architect within a complex organisation with a diverse technical landscape, coupled with pragmatic understanding of how architecture, change delivery and support perspectives interact

  • The ability to communicate complex concepts and influence a diverse set of stakeholders to ensure consistency and alignment of goals, with excellent stakeholder management skills, both within the organisation and externally

  • Experience in planning and organizing concepts, e.g. managing Solution Architects to review solution designs, understanding the key architectural decisions and providing guidance and input, whilst ensuring consistency

  • Knowledge of integration approaches and patterns, particularly as applied to internal shared services

  • Being flexible with a 'can do' attitude and the ability to learn fast - new concepts and skills - and deal calmly with situations under pressure

  • Be passionate about driving change by creating practical, workable architectures aligned to the bank's IT objectives and following the bank's governance processes

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Previous architecture or delivery experience within the Financial Services Industry

  • Have knowledge and experience of AWS and Cloud Architectures

  • Experience with architecture and service management toolsets (Abacus, ServiceNow, Flexera)
