Summary
The Head of Operations role for Specialist Surgery will become vacant on 1/8/24 due to retirement of the current post holder.
An experienced manager will be required in order to fill the role to cover the Head of Ops and also the general manager support to ENT, Maxillofacial and Breast.
An experienced General Manager is in post covering Ophthalmology and Dermatology, having been slotted into their role as part of the restructure of the Care Groups. The general manager role for the remaining three specialties was not built into the structure and therefore has had to be covered by the Head of Operations.
The general duties of the post of Head of Operations is covered in the Job description. Listed below are areas which give context to the demands of the role and the requirement to recruit.
The post holder has overall responsibility for the day to day management of Specialist Surgery (ENT, Maxillofacial, Breast, Ophthalmology and Dermatology) with more detailed responsibilities for the 3 specialties without a general manager.
The specialties have 4 cancer tumour sites (Skin, Breast, Head and Neck and Thyroid)
Four of the specialties have elective inpatient and day case work through theatres.
Dermatology elective work is run through the Dermatology department
All of the specialties have a high demand for outpatients (high percentage of 2ww for the tumour group specialties) including urgents, news, follow-ups (backlogs in all specialties) and follow up with procedures
The operational delivery of the services as a whole covers the whole Trust, with additional community set ups in Dermatology.
On-call rotas with three tier cover are in place for ENT, Maxfax and Ophthalmology
