An experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual is required for this post in Blood Sciences at the Chesterfield Site within Derbyshire Pathology.

Working in this busy and dynamic area of Pathology, the successful candidate will provide day-to-day supervision of the Medical Laboratory Assistant staff in their wide range of roles within the pre and post analytics sections in Blood Sciences.

The successful candidate will have a passion for training and be responsible for undertaking training of new MLA’s and other biomedical scientist staff.

In this key area of the laboratory, you will demonstrate exceptional knowledge of blood sciences specimen receipt and reporting processes.

You will be an effective communicator to share this knowledge with the MLA team to ensure a high-quality service is always maintained.

Once trained, working hours will be Monday-Friday 9:30am – 6pm but this may develop in the future in line with service need.

The post involves all aspects of the MLA role, as well as taking a lead on training new MLA’s and biomedical science staff, dealing with complex issues in specimen reception and providing management and leadership support.

The candidate will be required to have a flexible approach to working, to ensure that the provision of the service is supported during routine and out of hours periods i.e. covering of shifts.

The laboratory is fully committed to service development and transformation; you will be required to be involved in continual improvement projects, guided by and working closely with the Management Team, as well as liaising across Derbyshire Pathology to ensure the successful growth of the department.

Applicants must have demonstrable experience working in a Blood Sciences Pathology Laboratory.

The successful candidate will be given full training opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills and participate in the management of the department.
