Planning Policy Officer (D)

Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Planning Policy Officer to join our team. As a Planning Policy Officer, you will play a key role in shaping and implementing our organization's planning policies and strategies. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and the community to ensure that our planning policies are aligned with local, regional, and national goals.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to analyze data, conduct research, and develop policy recommendations to support sustainable development and growth. You will also have the chance to contribute to the preparation of planning documents, such as Local Plans, Area Action Plans, and Supplementary Planning Documents, and to provide advice on planning applications and appeals.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in planning policy, with a deep understanding of the legislative framework and best practices. You should be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate complex information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. Additionally, you should be a team player with strong interpersonal skills, as you will be working collaboratively with colleagues across various departments and engaging with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities
Conduct research and analysis to support the development of planning policies and strategies
Assist in the preparation and review of planning documents, including Local Plans, Area Action Plans, and Supplementary Planning Documents
Provide advice and guidance on planning applications and appeals, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to gather feedback and ensure that planning policies are aligned with local, regional, and national objectives
Monitor and evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of planning policies, making recommendations for improvement as necessary
Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation, policies, and research findings in the field of planning policy
Engage with the community and participate in public consultations and stakeholder engagement activities
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field
Proven experience in planning policy, either in a public or private sector setting
Excellent knowledge of planning legislation, regulations, and best practices
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and research findings
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences
Proficiency in using planning software and tools
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
