JOB PURPOSE:
• To assist in the provision of care and work as part of a team to achieve quality outcomes.
• To ensure clients retain their dignity and individuality.
• To ensure the highest standards of care are delivered through a person centred approach at all times.
• To assist in the general activities of the home.
Skills, Knowledge and qualifications required:
A genuine interest of working within a caring environment.
• Ability to work communicates effectively at all levels.
• Team Player.
• Willingness to participate in vocational and any other relevant training.
• Satisfactory police check and clearance with the independent safeguarding authority.
Desired:
• Care certification (achieved / working towards).
• Experience of working with the elderly.
Main responsibilities
• To ensure the highest standards of care are maintained at all times.
• To assist clients with all aspects of their daily life and preferred routine when required E.G Washing and dressing, continence, hair care, oral care, nail care, skin care, pressure care, mobility.
• Closely monitor clients who present challenging behaviour and document accordingly E.G on a behaviour report.
• Ensure all tasks carried out are documented in full on the correct documentation and in a legible and accurate format.
• Complete daily charts appropriately and truthfully E.G Diet, fluid, hourly checks.
• Assist in the delivery of care for clients during their end of life and/or progressive illness.
• Answer the call bell system promptly.
• Answer the door and telephone promptly, respond accordingly and pass on messages appropriately.
• Remain up to date with information in residents care plans.
• Complete daily evaluation records.
• Report on the well-being and any changes of a client to the person in charge.
• Make visitors to the home feel welcome.
• Provide refreshments/ assistance as when required.
• Make and change beds, ensuring rooms are left clean and tidy, empty and clean commodes after every use, ensure the thorough cleaning of all equipment (hoists, stand aids, belts] and assist in other required domestic duties as directed by the home to ensure high standards of infection prevention and control.
• Assist residents with meals and all aspects of dietary and fluid monitoring as required. Remain aware of swallowing difficulties and any special requirements.
• Provide escort assistance to service user travelling to and from the hospital or other places as directed.
• Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with service user personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Service users.
• Do not accept gifts from clients or others – please refer to the “GIFTS” policy, ensure all offers of gifts are declared to senior staff.

Marketing
• Assist the Home manager and in actively marketing the care centre and promoting a positive personal/professional profile within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the care centre at all times.
• Ensure the
• Home remains fresh and welcoming for visitors.
• Actively promote and uphold the reputation of the home both inside and outside of normal working hours.
• Assist in showing visitors around the home as directed by the Home Manager.

Training and development.
• Maintain knowledge and competence.
• Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site.
• Attend any other training as required.


Health and safety
• Report immediately to the Home Manager or person in charge, any illness of infectious nature or accident incurred by a Service User, colleague, self or other.
• Understand and ensure the implementation of, the Homes Health and safety policy, emergency and fire procedures, employee handbook.
• Promote safe working practices at all times.
• Report to the Home Manager or Person in charge, Maintenance Technician any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or potential hazard in the first instance.
General
• Ensure that all information gained in the course of duty remains confidential and is not divulged to third parties.
• Assist in ensuring the security of the care centre is maintained at all times.
• Notify the Home Manager or Person in charge of any absence or your inability to report for duty as soon as possible.
• Ensure you disclose any injury that may directly affect your ability to work or injury that may be worsened by your role.
• Adhere to the company policies and procedures at all times.
• Ensure all activities related equipment remains in good, safe working order.
• Provide mealtime assistance in the dining room E.G assist with the diet of clients, assist in ensuring a homely and social atmosphere is maintained.
• Provide adequate notice to all persons informing them of planned events.
• Assist Managing staff in ensuring all persons plan of care is adhered to.
• Any other duties as may be reasonably required.
