Here at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our dedicated team of Macmillan colorectal clinical nurse specialist based in Weston General Hospital.

This is an fantastic opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to develop advanced nursing skills within a Macmillan supported personalised approach to cancer care. Working with the colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team within the surgical and cancer pathways across UHBW, you will play a key role in contributing to this high quality patient centred service including involvement and participation at weekly MDT meetings and outpatient clinics. The role of the colorectal CNS includes providing information, advice and support for colorectal cancer patients, and those close to them, at all stages of their disease. Including pre-diagnosis, pre and post any surgical intervention, palliative / oncology treatments as well as running the nurse led colorectal follow up.
The successful candidate will have previous post registration clinical experience in the care of patients with colorectal cancer. Applicants should possess excellent literacy, communication, organisational and leadership skills and should be prepared to work within a flexible working environment. Post graduate education, teaching and mentoring skills plus good IT skills are essential.
The role requires having the ability to assess and manage a range of complex symptoms, ethical decision making, supporting endoscopy, patients and families with breaking bad news and other difficult conversations.
Therefore the successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to practice with an advanced level of knowledge in relation to the care of colorectal patients. The post holder will run nurse led clinics, and facilitate effective health care delivery. Leadership, innovation, motivation and excellent communication skills are essential as is the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Your role will adopt a strategic approach to both inpatient and outpatient care, including developing pathways, SOPs, audit, service development, training and education which are all vital elements of the Band 7 colorectal role.
