As the ILS Engineering Manager you will lead and be responsible for a team of engineers (ILS and Technical Publications) to ensure all relevant activities and requirements are delivered to time, cost and performance. The role also includes ILS support to bid work and management reporting activity.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership of a small team of engineers and influencing a larger design team in the delivery of ILS principles, as defined in DefStan 00-600.
  • Promoting and driving team adherence to company values, processes and procedures.
  • Promoting and adhering to Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and best practice
  • Ensuring efficient delivery of ILS outputs to time, cost and performance.
  • Creating a culture for development, innovation and continuous improvement through setting stretching goals for self and teams; rewarding high performance.
  • Defining and maintaining appropriate team reporting to support business performance (Metrics - Time, Cost, Performance, Quality).
  • Provision / prioritisation of appropriate resourcing to support business performance.
  • Ensuring lessons learnt and best practice are shared across the business to support continuous improvement and consistency.
  • Making timely decisions considering risk and business performance, and acting promptly to mobilise resources and team to resolve issues.

  • Applied or technical knowledge and skills required for effective performance in the role
  • A deep understanding of ILS and engineering principles
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.
  • Proven leadership experience.
  • Proven line management experience including performance development
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with energy and enthusiasm at all levels within and outside of the business.
  • Good IT skills, including Word and Excel.

Knowledge/Experience of:

  • DefStan 00-600 and/or JSP886.
  • ASD S Series ILS standards.
  • Initial Provisioning, Spares Modelling, Codification and Packaging Handling Storage and Transportation.
  • Availability, Reliability, Maintainability and Testability analysis and its military application or Def Stan 00-40 R&M.
  • Military publications such as AESP, Air Publications (Def Stan 00-601 Parts 1-4) or IETPs (ASD1000D).
  • Configuration Management and Documentation Control.
