Full time: Monday – Friday, 9am -5pm; 35 hours per week
Fixed term: 3rd June 2024 to 30th August 2024


The Opportunity:

Based mainly in the wood workshop you will work directly with students in the wood workshop, assisting and supporting the Specialist Technicians across the Fabrication Team. In addition, you will oversee the canvas and timber stretcher making services for all students and staff.

The Fabrication Team has five main workshops including wood, metal, casting, foundry and glass, and you would be expected to work across all areas when required. You will provide expert advice to students from a variety of disciplines, working closely with your team members. In addition, you will support your team members, students and Academic staff in the construction of the Graduate shows in August.

This post includes the teaching of relevant technical processes and training to students in relevant techniques whilst supporting student self-led projects and supporting academic briefs.

The post holder will take a lead role in providing world-class services to our students and staff. They are required to assess and develop solutions by anticipating future demand, manage safe working within the technical areas, and ensure that equipment is well maintained and is used safely and efficiently.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), and will require the post holder to work on-site on daily basis.


Your skills and attributes for success:

-The Post Holder will be fully experienced in the use of general workshop equipment eg. Power tools / fixed plant and machinery and may hold an HNC/HND or equivalent level qualifications plus typically 3 years’ experience of relevant technical work or experience.
-Working knowledge and experience of fabrication and construction methods with materials including, but not limited to – wood, metal, acrylic, plywood, MDF, foam, fabrics, ceramics and mould making techniques.
-Experience of instructing users on a one to one basis and in large and small groups
Ability to work with a flexible and lateral thinking approach to problem solving
-Experience of working within a team, ability to follow instructions and contribute to team initiatives.
