Post background

JNCC’s information governance and infrastructure is continuously evolving to respond to new developments in technology, enable effective collaboration across the organisation and with partners, and monitor information security. This exciting new post is being introduced to support this evolution, with a focus on developing an information governance framework and standards to improve the ways we use and share resources. In this post, you will work across the organisation to support teams to manage their information well, sharing knowledge, recommendations, and training with colleagues. A key objective will be to ensure information management is applied appropriately within the M365 environment.

The postholder will be part of a teamlet of 4 who provide information management and data protection advice and expertise to the science and corporate services teams. The teamlet makes up one part of the Digital and Data Solutions Team which delivers information management and data protection services, application development, data engineering and project management across the organisation.

You will also work closely with IT and Cyber Security colleagues on the delivery and championing of information and records management using M365, working with teams to enable more effective and efficient usage of information.

There will be lots of opportunities to work on projects of interest and collaborate with others across the organisation. An interest in nature conservation and ecological knowledge would be helpful to you but are not a requirement.


Post Duties
• Develop and manage systems for information and knowledge exchange across the organisation to create a culture which encourages a collaborative style of working
• Support the development and implementation of an information management framework
• Support the team in its delivery of services and collaborate with stakeholders to build a strong information management culture
• Support development and implementation of a Records Management Strategy as part of an Information Management and Assurance Strategy.
• Understand and apply the information management capabilities of Microsoft products, and other emerging digital services and products, to help users manage information effectively and efficiently.
• As a key link staff member with corporate services, and as part of the wider data community within JNCC, fulfil any other duties required to support business objectives.


Technical - To be a successful candidate you will be/have:

• Understanding and knowledge of information management legislation, and the information lifecycle, and practical experience of applying this
• Experience and strong understanding of using IT systems for managing information (for example, Microsoft 365)
• Experience of developing and delivering training


Experience (Responsibilities) - To be a successful candidate you will have:

• Experience, or aptitude for, applying knowledge and information management or information governance in the workplace.
• Able to work on own initiative, and to reprioritise, keep track of multiple activities and meet deadlines in a rapidly changing work environment.
• Able to handle situations with tact and diplomacy having regard for the sensitive and confidential nature of the some of the data that may be handled.
• The motivation to keep up to date with evolving technologies and Information Management/Information Governance best practice, to maintain continuous professional development.
• Able to undertake research projects to ensure JNCC’s approach to information management meets the needs of JNCC strategy and business requirements.

JNCC has adopted a hybrid working approach, allowing colleagues to benefit from time in the office, with the flexibility also to work from home. Employees are expected to work from our office base for 1 – 2 days a month as a minimum, this will vary by team and the exact balance will depend on the nature of your role.
