Summary

Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School has an exciting opportunity to appoint a motivated individual in the role of Sixth Form Pastoral Assistant to join their friendly team. This is a fixed term, term time only role for the academic year 2024/25 in the first instance. It is 37 hours per week, from 2nd September 2024 until 22nd July 2025. The hours of work are daily, Monday-Thursday 8.00am - 4.00pm and Friday 8.00am - 3.30pm. This role would be ideal for students taking a gap year, as part of their University placement or candidates of any age looking for experience of working with young people or seeking a new challenge.

The role will be based within our Sixth Form Office and combine administrative support with working directly with students. It will suit a dynamic and perceptive individual who is keen to support our students and help them achieve their full potential.

Working with us: Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School is a selective boys grammar school with a large co educational sixth form. It was founded in 1701 in order to provide an education to young men who would go on to work at the famous Chatham Dockyard. More than 300 years later we still pride ourselves on providing a superb academic education alongside an unparalleled range of opportunities for personal growth and character development. Awarded ‘outstanding’ in our last Ofsted in March 2023, the school has a track record of exceptional examination performance. Our Ofsted report comments, ‘Pupils and students are thoughtful, polite, courteous and respectful.’ It also comments, ‘Staff morale is high, and turnover is low. Leaders are very conscious of staff well-being.’

In 2012 the School became one of the first 100 National Teaching Schools and in 2021 was successful in converting this into becoming one of the first 35 National Teaching School Hubs. Alongside our work as a National Support School, our position in Leigh Academies Trust and as the lead school in the Kent and Medway Maths Hub the school is in unrivalled position to offer superb support and training to any new member of staff, regardless of their role, or their experience.
