Summary

This new post is offered as full time (10PAs) but less than full time applications will be considered. Anaesthetics duties will be across the Trust. Pain Management duties will be based at Pontefract and Dewsbury Hospitals. The intention is to start with 3.75PAs in Pain to support delivery of Pain services in our new day-case facility on the Dewsbury site. Main duties of the post will include: 1. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team including consultants, physiotherapists, and specialist nurses to co-ordinate patient-centred management plans including medication, rehabilitative physiotherapy, invasive procedures and psychological approaches across Primary and Secondary care. You will be expected to signpost to resources within Primary care. 2. Outpatient clinics assessing and working with patients to help manage chronic pain. This will include both assessing new patients and review of those already within the service. The balance between these may vary according to the needs of the service at any time. It is essential to formulate individual patient plans as patients may be reviewed by other members of the team. 3. Treatment clinics including a wide range of X-ray and ultrasound guided procedures which will be delivered at Pontefract Hospital in a dedicated pain unit or at Dewsbury Hospital in our new day-case facility (due to open Summer 2024) with nursing and radiology support. 4. Working collaboratively with patients to agree management plans including resources within Pain Management and Primary Care. 5. Keeping patients, referrers and Primary Care practitioners informed of agreed plans, progress and future possibilities. You will be expected to communicate results of any investigations ordered in a timely manner and refer patients onward for any treatment that cannot be provided by the service. 6. You will be expected to participate in a rota to triage referrals as part of a Referral and Advice service. This is part of the national Choose and Book system. You will also be expected to answer e-consultations advising GPs on the management of patients with complex pain needs. 7. Supporting the inpatient Pain Management service in the management of patients with complex pain. This will be on an ad-hoc basis and is not expected to be a regular commitment. 8. You will be expected to actively participate in, and contribute to, a monthly half day Pain MDT meeting which includes clinical governance, multidisciplinary discussion of patients and education. 9. On-call and out-of-hours commitments are for Acute & Obstetric Anaesthesia on an approximately 1:20 rota. The current PA allocation for the on-call is 1PA/week. 10. Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service. 11. Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out from time to time by the General Medical Council (GMC) and comply with the GMCs guidance on Good Medical Practice as amended or substituted from time to time.
