A part-time Solicitor/Lawyer - Litigation (Legal) is required for approximately 20 hours per week (days worked TBC).

This role is initially for 4 months, with the possibility of extension, on a rolling contract basis, for the right candidate.

You should be experienced in contract Law and Litigation. (The work may relate to housing matters including possessions, injunctions and disrepair cases.)

Key responsibilities:

To give practical, clear, accurate and full legal advice to Council officers within the area of law allocated to the post.
To be responsible for conduct of the legal cases allocated by the Principal or Senior Lawyers.
To carry out legal research.
To develop and apply procedures relevant to the main area of responsibility for the post, or as directed by the Principal or Senior Lawyers.
To adapt and apply legal precedents and to draft documents including documents that require original thought, appropriate to the level of the post.
To assist with work allocated to Principal or Senior Lawyers.
To deliver accurate, prompt, cost effective and customer focused legal services to the Partnership, including ensuring that:
Your work matches any standards and performance measures specified;
Your productivity and efficiency meet any targets set to ensure that income earned by the team meets targets and that time recording procedures are followed.
Commensurate with the level of the post to provide or assist with the provision of training and guidance to colleagues within the Legal Practice and within other Partnership Services.
To attend and contribute to team meetings and to actively participate in Legal Practice projects and initiatives including development of effective precedents and procedures.

Qualifications:

An appropriately qualified Lawyer with the flexibility to attend court as required. The work will may relate to housing matters including possessions, injunctions and disrepair cases.
Fellowship of the Institute of Legal Executives or equivalent level of knowledge and experience



Skills & experience:

In depth understanding of the principles of Contract Law and Litigation
Previous trial experience
Knowledge of local government law and procedure.
Ability to absorb complex information and to give clear, accurate legal advice.
Ability to draft a range of legal documents in clear, concise language.
Ability to write clear, concise, correspondence and to provide advice clearly both orally and in writing.
Ability to negotiate effectively with third parties/external agencies.
Good keyboard skills.
Competent in the use of electronic legal case management system
Ability to deal appropriately with competing demands.
Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
