About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK sites, which includes but is not limited to: Dublin, Edinburgh, Leeds, Glasgow, Perth, and Reading

Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

SSE Thermal have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Consents Manager to join our team!

As the Lead Consents Manager you will lead on the consenting and permitting activities for a number of large and complex low carbon thermal energy projects through the development, construction and commissioning phases.

The Lead Consent Manager will provide strategic as well as specialist advice.

The main responsibilities within this role will be to:

- Scope, design and implement consenting strategies to deliver consents and permits applicable across the low carbon projects' portfolio comprising new build and retrofit low carbon thermal power generation infrastructure.

- Identify, instruct and manage external consents resources, working closely and co-ordinating with internal project, land, legal, engineering and procurement teams.

- Identify and manage consenting and permitting risks including optioneering and mitigation strategies and timeous escalation.

- Deliver necessary consents, permits and licences, including Town and Country Planning, Development Consent Order, Safety, Environmental, and Marine, to support recommendations up to Final Investment Decision (FID) and ultimate project delivery including discharge of planning condition and/or DCO requirement to support project implementation.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Substantial knowledge and experience of planning, consenting and environmental requirements for major capital projects (including, Town and Country Planning, Development Consent Order, Section 36 Consent, Environmental Permitting, and Water Abstraction Licensing).

- Be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Member of Institute of Environment Management and Assessment or other related professional body.

- Knowledge and experience of commercial drivers for major infrastructure projects.

- Knowledge of Safety, Health and Environment legislation and practices.

- Ability to form, and manage a project consent delivery team, within an environment of high uncertainty and rapid change.

- The ability to communicate at all levels within the business, including organisations and groups such as Local Communities, Local Authorities and Statutory Consultees.
