Summary


To be responsible for the provision of skilled nursing care, within the multidisciplinary care team. There will be a requirement to supervise Health Care Assistants and student nurses on a day to day basis, in achieving objectives. There will be a mandatory expectation to meet competencies in most areas to enable safe, autonomous running of Nurse Led Clinics

The Main Outpatients Departments have clinics across three sites: North Tees, Hartlepool and Peterlee and offer a wide range of multi specialty clinics including general medicine, respiratory, cardiology, general surgery, urology, breast care clinic, women’s health, dermatology, pain management, ENT, ophthalmology, neurology, oncology, lung health and haematology.

This post will include taking responsibility for the daily coordination of the of the outpatient clinics, providing clinical expertise, teaching and supervising unregistered staff and student nurses, acting as a role model to junior staff and taking responsibility and accountability for a group of patients. This post will suit a nurse who is looking for an exciting, challenging role having the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and experience in the many specialities listed above.

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust are seeking a motivated registered nurse who is interested in joining the Outpatient Departments. It would be an advantage if you have theatre and outpatient experience due to the expansion of rheumatology, surgical, vascular, gynaecology, respiratory and dermatological procedures within an outpatient setting. This is a permanent post for up to 37.5 hours per week.

• Contribute to the provision of the physical and psychological environment which is conductive to providing high standards of nursing care.
• Communicates effectively with patients, relatives, carers, all members of organisation and external agencies.
• Take charge of the Department in the absence of the OPD Sister.
• Abide by legal requirements and statutory rules relating to NMC codes, scope of practice and local policies.
• Maintain accurate and confidential clinical and nursing documentation
• Participate in the delivery of health education in the prevention of illness to our patients
• Assist in the assessment and evaluation of systems to ensure the maintenance of high quality standards of practices i.e. Nursing Strategy, 15 Steps Challenge, 6 C’s.
• Participate in research as required and the application of research findings into clinical practice and actively take part initiating new ideas and implementation of evidence based practice.
• To mentor and facilitate the education of health care assistants and student nurses.
• Take responsibility for own personal development with evidence of a personal development portfolio and support others to develop and attend training.
• Maintain a strong patient safety culture by participating in all aspects of Clinical Governance and Clinical Supervision.
• To use resources appropriately and have a knowledge of resources management.
• Demonstrate commitment to IWL principles and flexible working patterns, to meet the needs of the service and staff
