Summary


This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new and innovative approach to early cancer diagnosis. The Rapid Diagnostic Clinic in ABUHB provides a single point of access for patients who do not fit urgent suspected cancer pathway criteria, but have non-specific ‘vague’ symptoms that could indicate cancer.

The role will form an integral part of a RDC Multidisciplinary Team, working closely with clinical, medical and nursing teams, to provide specialist knowledge and advice on the management of patients referred into the RDC and will play an active part in any decisions regarding the management and strategic direction of the service.

The successful applicant will be ahighly skilled practitioner, have knowledge of cancer and presenting symptoms and possess the drive to continue to develop their practice and the service.

Participation in patient education and health promotion and optimisation, audit and evaluation is required.

The post holder will support the Rapid Diagnostic Clinic in providing an evidence-based service to include assessment and appropriate management strategies and support for patients presenting with vague symptoms. The post holder will:
• Support the continued development and provision of the ongoing clinical service provided by the RDC.   
• Provide faster diagnosis for patients with vague symptoms and a suspicion of cancer through timely and effective triage and diagnostic investigations.   
• Be responsible for the integrated co-ordination, triage and onward referral of patients with non-specific symptoms to enable access to diagnostics and continued care, as appropriate.   
• Be responsible for ensuring onward referral either to an appropriate urgent suspected cancer, tumour-specific MDT or back to the patient’s GP. This includes provision of a report to the GP regarding the findings to include advice and guidance provided by the MDT.
