Summary


The Anaesthetic Directorate is led by a team supporting the perioperative model recommended by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. This comprises a CD, and associate CDs for preoperative, intraoperative and immediate postoperative care, workforce and Emergency Theatre.

We provide many tertiary services including, Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology, Vascular, upper GI, major oncology surgery, maxilla facial, Plastics and Burns. The directorate also houses a 32 bedded Critical Care Unit for all of the above specialties.

Applicants are invited to apply for this Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia and will be expected to provide pre-operative assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up. There will be a combination of teaching lists and solo lists with nearby supervision.

We are ideally looking for doctors seeking a 12 months fixed term post and there is a possibility of extension.

You will be expected to have experience in Anaesthesia and ideally in Intensive Care. The post holder will be expected to work under distant supervision especially during out of hour’s shifts.

You will promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care, supporting professional activities and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
• • Provide an Anaesthetic service across the Trust.
• Participate in the trainee anaesthetic rota on both hospital sites with additional cover during colleagues’ absence.
• Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than full-time and ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods.
• Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
• Exercise the freedom to assist in development of specialist elements of the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources.
• Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.
• Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the theatre environment.
• Maintain continuing education and professional development at least to the requirements of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
• Willingness to be involved with undergraduate education is essential.



Lancashire Teaching Hospitals provides a wide range of general hospital services to around 370,000 people from the Chorley, South Ribble and Preston areas.
