At St Mary’s Hospital, we’re looking for people who really want to care for others. You may have already had some caring experience gained in a healthcare or social care setting, or you might be a care giver or guardian outside of work. You might have previous experience of working with people in a different setting, like hospitality, retail, or other service industry. These are all relevant experiences for the role of a Maternity Support Worker. If you’ve got the personal skills, resilience, and work ethic we’re looking for, that’s where it starts.

If you’ve already got qualifications like the National Care Certificate or Level 2 Apprenticeship in healthcare, that’s great. But don’t worry if you don’t - our Clinical Support Worker Development Programme will support you to gain all the skills and knowledge you need. This includes the completion of the Care Certificate for candidates who have not completed this previously. The great news is the completion of this Programme will progress you into a Band 3 Maternity Support Worker role.

Above all else, when you join us as a Maternity Support Worker, you’ll make sure our patients have the quality care and support they deserve.

St Mary’s is a specialist hospital for maternity and female services including gynaecology. You will be working with patients who have come into our hospital through a GP referral, one of our urgent care centres or having a planned procedure. Whatever reason a loved one is in hospital, it takes its toll on their family too. You’ll treat every person you come across with dignity, respect, kindness, and patience.

Some of the specific responsibilities of the role will include:

· Welcome and orientate women/partners and visitors to the ward/department.

· Assist in preparing women’s notes, relevant charts, midwifery documentation and identity bracelets prior to, and on admission

· Assist women in maintaining their personal hygiene, grooming and dressing needs with specific concern for their religious, cultural and personal preference, ensuring privacy and dignity at all times

· Chaperone the women as required ensuring appropriate support.

We welcome applications from those looking for a flexible working arrangement and will accommodate requests wherever our services allow. These roles do require a minimum commitment of 22.5 hours a week however, and the availability to undertake the required training.

Unfortunately, these roles are not eligible for sponsorship under current Home Office regulations.
