Summary

Zest Care are looking for reliable and dedicated Cooks to provide quality nutritious meals for elderly residents to our care home clients in Wakefield and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:
• Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious and appetising meals for residents in accordance with their dietary requirements, preferences, and cultural needs.
• Develop menus that meet the nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions outlined by healthcare professionals, ensuring a balanced and varied diet for residents.
• Ensure that meals are presented attractively and served at the appropriate temperature and portion size, maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety at all times.
• Monitor food stock levels, order supplies as needed, and manage kitchen inventory to minimise waste and ensure cost-effectiveness.
• Work closely with care home staff and management to accommodate special dietary requests and provide alternatives for residents with specific dietary needs or allergies.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen area, including equipment, utensils, and food storage areas, in compliance with food safety regulations and hygiene standards.
• Adhere to health and safety procedures, including the safe handling and storage of food, proper use of kitchen equipment, and maintenance of a clean and organised workspace.

Requirements:
• Right to work in the UK
• Experience working as a cook in a care home, hospital, school or similar catering environment would be preferable.
• Knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements for elderly individuals, including familiarity with texture-modified diets and special dietary considerations.
• Food hygiene certificate (Level 2 or above) and a strong understanding of food safety regulations and best practices.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with residents and staff.
• DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check
