Summary

Our Client in Yate is looking for a Toolroom Manager to work on a permanent basis in a busy manufacturing environment.

Your Main Duties:
- Manage Toolroom Materials / Labour / Spares / Overtime budgets.
- Manage day to day Toolroom available labour priorities & production cover on all
shifts to support production & eliminate or reduce production downtime &
associated losses.
- Actively participate with external & internal project teams for tooling NPI, including
the chosen external OEM manufacturers for Design specification, manufacture, &
modification of new & existing tooling & machinery including arranging
manufacture of prototypes & production tool release for projects.
- Support WCM work / Engineering / Maintenance with machining support priorities
with in the Toolroom.
- Ensure site KPI’s & objectives are adhered to in line with current policies, scrap,
output, efficiencies, etc.
- Coordination of tooling modifications (internal & external sources), new projects
and the internal manufacturing of critical spares.
- Coordination of substantial repairs with external sources in the event of major
damage occurring, & the internal productionising / approval on completion &
return.
- Liaise daily with Production supervision, Industrial Engineering Dept, Quality Dept,
& Design Dept. Attend & participate in daily / weekly / monthly review meetings
with Quality / Production / Engineering depts., for scrap / efficiencies / losses.
- Work closely with the Process Engineers & Engineering team to actively
participate & prioritise in Continuous Improvement projects.
- Support Maintenance Department with specialised machining as & when required.
- Support Quality Department with specification & manufacture of specialised
machining & jigs & fixtures.
- Provide higher level of support with problem solving & diagnostics for production /
component issues.
- Prioritise work schedules & breakdowns daily (Proactive & Reactive Priorities).
- Create & manage factory shutdowns Toolroom planned work & internal / external
resources required including contractors.
- Lead handover meetings between shifts and prioritize work schedules for each
shift.
- Organise internal Kanban system for spare parts (stores & min/max).
- Maintain & promote tooling techniques in line with modern day practices.
- Tooling Preventative maintenance (PPM), create weekly planning requirements
highlighting issues & issue to production.
- Scope & Order pre-manufactured consumable materials & spares from approved
external suppliers.
- Support Design team & site with N.P.I. & Factory technical process input for
design for manufacture.
- Manage Permits to Work, Hot Work Permits, MEWPS checklist, RAMS, Insurance
Certs for relevant Contractors prior to & during activities.
- Renegotiation, renewal, management of yearly service contracts.
- Manage & coordinate MPPS mechanical & electrical yearly service contract
inspections & corrective action work to all mechanical presses.
- Manage & coordinate MPPS Brake & Clutch strip downs, inspections, & corrective
actions to all mechanical presses.
- Manage & coordinate Insurance 6 monthly inspections & ensure completion of
corrective action work for all presses.
- Manage & continue close supportive relationships with Design dept. Contractors,
& Insurance Inspectors from external companies.
- Manage & coordinate external Toolmaker CTS for Yate work & provide technical &
practical support off & on site.
- Manage & coordinate specialist lifting equipment company RHC for 6 monthly
service contract inspections of 3x Toolroom hoists & gantries & any corrective
actions required, passing on all information to Zurich Insurance.
- Prioritize & provide emergency machining / technical support to internal contractor
RGE as required.

Desirable Qualifications / Experience.
- Completed a full 4 year indentured BTEC technical apprenticeship in Press
Toolmaking to HNC level.
- BEng Degree level of education in Mechanical Engineering.
- IOSH certified.
- Experience in supporting a high volume metal pressings and manufacturing facility
in the service & repair of press tools. This includes automatic transfer process
tooling & gang tool robot setups within Mechanical & Hydraulic presses in
domestic appliance / Automotive / Electronic industries.
- Knowledge & experience of working with specialised press tooling which are
designed & produced to process aesthetic critical production components made in
prepainted & various galvanised materials from coil & precut blanks.
- Capable of using Autocad to read & work from 2D CAD drawings working with
existing 2D CAD (dwg / dxf) tool drawings, to open, copy, view, edit, print, & check
details / dimensions as & when required.
- Capable of using Creo to read & work from 3D CAD Stp/Step drawings, to open,
copy, view, edit, print, & check details / dimensions as & when required.
- Trained & certified in Abrasive Wheels, Power Press Regulations, Nitrogen Gas
tooling systems, & Slinging & Rigging (Lifting)
- Knowledge & Experience of working with Nitrogen Gas springs & manifold
systems within Tooling.
- Creation of site wide capex funding requests & approvals management on PPM
Planisware system.
- Responsibility for inputting monthly data into the ASSET.
